What is CWC?

The Creative Writing for Children Society (CWC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the creativity, confidence and writing capacity of children through well-tailored writing programs, delivered in-class and through digital platforms such as Zoom. In our programs, students from around the world write and illustrate their own books, which are professionally desktop published.

Founded in 2004, CWC is based in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

Our mentor pool is composed of professional authors, editors, illustrators, actors, screenwriters, playwrights, and other creative educators who are active in their respective fields. When children enroll in our programs, they get direct access to experienced mentors who know how to nurture, inspire, and ignite the best in young writers.

What do we do?

We like to think of our program as soccer for writers. Put your children on a sports team and they are given coaches and made to participate in practices, drills, and matches. We treat the craft of creative writing just as seriously. Our participants are mentored by published children’s authors and are given all of the tools to write and illustrate their own books, which are then professionally published with full-colour covers and perfect-binding.

Where are we?
CWC brings classes right to your community, to help minimize travel for students and parents. We offer programs throughout the Greater Vancouver area at community centres and other public facilities. We also offer classes via Zoom to students worldwide.
